Une grande célébration du jazz !
A great celebration of jazz!
On June 27 at the Imperial Bell, the Quebec Jazz Festival will present an exclusive concert that brings together 6 great female voices: Sheila Jordan. Ranee Lee, Nanette Workman, Karen Young, Gabrielle Shonk and Marie-Claire Linteau.
Sheila Jordan is a true icon of American vocal jazz. This incredible singer thrived during the glory days of bebop and has never hesitated to renew and participate in the experiences of the avant-garde. At 90, she still sings with undimmed emotion and expressiveness.
Ranee Lee has been singing Jazz since her musical debut and has paid theatrical tribute to the greatest singers in history (The Musical, Jazz on Broadway, Dark Divas). Her beautiful renditions of Just You, Just Me and What’s Going On are always showstoppers.
Karen Young’s body of work spans several genres: The Song of Songs, Soul, Body and Desire, Electro-Beatnicks and Portraits (Songs of Joni Mitchell). Her versatile voice brings life to anything it touches.
Nanette Workman has recently performed Gershwin and Porter's songs in symphonic concert with the Saguenay and Trois-Rivières orchestras. A big voice from a big talent.
Gabrielle Shonk's first album won the Juno Award for Best Adult Alternative Album 2019. Her career is a masterful blend of blues, folk and vocal jazz.
Marie-Claire Linteau is a rising star on the Quebec Jazz scene, with multiple projects alongside many of the province’s well-established musicians. Adept at many genres, Ms. Linteau is destined for great things.
This will be a truly unique evening, with six exquisite voices meeting onstage to offer personal interpretations of great jazz standards. Artistic direction is provided by contrabassist and composer Patricia Deslauriers, with musical direction by Jean-Francois Girard, a jazz pianist, composer and arranger of the highest calibre. Staging is courtesy of Richard Aubé Productions, specializing in the creation of innovative events (Because of Carmen, The Lost Cabaret, Kébec Stone of Memory).
